RTC IBM i Beta 1: Repository services are not available

Jan Coetsee (46122) | asked Aug 08 '08, 11:50 a.m.
I just completed the installation of WAS 6.1 and RTC for IBM i Beta 1 on i5/OS V5R4.
When I try to access the Jazz console(https://<my>:9443/jazz/admin),
I get this summary status:

Error fetching server status information
Repository services are not available on the server. Provision the server to install the repository components.

I cannot spot any problems in the SystemOut.log (see below) except may this warning:

"WebApp W Error while adding servlet mapping --> /* Please set fileServingEnabled=false in the ibm-web-ext.xmi file which is under WEB-INF folder."

Any ideas what the problem is?

This the SystemOut.log:

    The message you are seeing is most frequently seen when the files in the provision_profiles directory are not updated to be absolute paths.

    Also, often times the WebSphere SystemOut.log contains useful messages for diagnosing this type of problem. You'll find this log under your WAS profile logs directory - usually something like \QIBM\UserData\WebSphere\AppServer\V61\Base\profiles\your_profile\logs\your_server where your_profile and your_server are specific to your configuration.

    I also had a couple of similar problems, but eventually got it to work. Not sure now, which action corrected this particular one.
    At some point the Installation Guide said, all passwords and user IDs are case sensitive. Since i5/OS usrprf names and password are not, they need to be entered in all UPPER CASE in RTCi. My conclusion (although not mentioned in the Installation guide) was, that you need to change file teamserver.properties accordingly in all upper case. The default (shown on p 3) is mixed case: jazzDBuser jazzDBpswd.
    Also make sure, the required PTFs (SI31547 & SI32280 for V5R4, resp. SI31554 & SI31976 for 6.1) are actually applied - in my case some prereqs were missing, which required an IPL to actually apply.
    Not sure, if it did matter:
    I also installed the latest GRP PTF for WAS 6.1: SF99353 Lvl 2. The Install Guide only said "IBM J2SE 5.0 32-bit JVM with latest Java group PTF applied".
    One more thing:
    P. 18 states:
    "If you are unable to assign Client Access Licenses to users, check the profile.ini and i-license-profile.ini files and ensure that you put all the parameters on the same line."
    I.e. for both .ini files, you need to add the content of the second line to the end of the first (with a PC editor - NOT EDTF).
    Not sure, if that happens in all cases, but before followed that instruction, I was not able to register additional users. (Note, you need to CRTUSRPRF before registering that usr in RTCi - again: ALL UPPER CASE)
    Hope this helps

    The error message concerning an error while adding servlet mapping should not be causing this problem. A couple of thoughts :

    (1) Even after you drove the jazz/admin page, you did not get any additional messages in your SystemOut.log ?... here's an example of what you might expect (I did blank out my ip address) - note how this is even after the "open for e-business":

    0000000a WsServerImpl A WSVR0001I: Server RTCIBETA1 open for e-business

    0000001d CacheServiceI I DYNA1001I: WebSphere Dynamic Cache instance named ws/WSSecureMapNotShared initialized successfully.
    0000001d SystemOut O 10:47:23,837 INFO uration.OverridablePropertyFileServerConfiguration - Loading configuration from "file:///QIBM/UserData/RTCi/V1/PHOTEST/jazz/server/teamserver.properties".

    Is it possible there are additional messages?

    (2) Could you post the settings you used for the WAS JVM custom properties?

    (3) Did you run the repotools.qsh to createTables? Is the same userid/pw still being used in your teamserver.properties (that is, the permissions would still be the same)?

    (4) Are there any System Operator messages that might lend a clue?

    A few clarifications/questions :
    - the jazzDBuser and jazzDBpswd in the teamserver.properties should not have to be in upper case (at least, we're not running that way so if you find that is the case, we should understand further)

    - if you are missing the required PTFs, you will not be able to assign licenses to users

    - as far as the .ini file content being on one line - could you clarify what happened?... How did you originally edit the file and what did you find to be your solution? There are really two lines - 1 starting with "url" and 1 starting with "featureid" ...

    Thanks

    Thanks for all the tips, but still no luck. Here's what I have:

    Problem (reminder):I just completed the installation of WAS 6.1 and RTC for IBM i Beta 1 on i5/OS V5R4.
    When I try to access the Jazz console(https://xxx:9443/jazz/admin),
    I get this summary status:

    Repository services are not available on the server. Provision the server to install the repository components.

    The installation root directory is (from the IFS root)

    NOTE: I went through the RTCi install again to make sure I did not mess up any steps and I used a different directory this time (previously I used root directory /Devo)

    Added this line at the end:
    com.ibm.team.repository.user.registry.type=UNSUPPORTED

    even if I open the Jazz console from IE and Firefox with
    https://xxx:9443/jazz/admin
    (strangely, neither promtps me for an id and password??)

    However, if I log onto the WAS console at https://xxx:9043/ibm/console
    (prompts for id & password), I do get a bunch of messages in the log:

    jazz.war Status
    Integrated Solutions Console/Applications/Enterprise Applications
    shows the status as Started

    Installation Status
    I have not yet installed the RTCi client or build server.
    I am stuck until I can get the Jazz console to operate.

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Sorry, if I mislead anybody. I reverted my changes in teamserver.properties to show user ID and password in mixed case and it still works (after stopping and starting WAS).
    Also in profile.ini and i-license-profile.ini files I split the two lines as they were before, now showing:
    url=file:/QIBM/UserData/RTCi/V1/TeamServer/jazz/server/license-update-site

    featureid=com.ibm.teami.rtci.server.license.standard_ea.feature
    and it still works (again, after stopping and starting WAS).
    So apparently in my case, it was just the PTFs not being all applied or something similar.
    However, forgot to mention, this is on IBM i 6.1 (not i5/OS V5R4 as in Jan Coetsee's case).

    Bruce and Jan,
    I found the cause of my problem and hopefully Jan's too:
    When I edited the profile.ini and i-license-profile.ini files I went the easiest way (at least for "i Freaks") and did it vie WRKLNK and EDTF.
    Doing so, I ignored message CPDB625 1 records folded. This caused the line to be split this way:
    url=file:./update-site

    featureid=com.ibm.team.rtc.server.feature

    After updating the first part with the actual URL and saving he file (in EDTF) there were in fact two lines in the .ini files. After I edited again with a PC editor (can do that in WDSc or RDi too), I could log into the RTCi Admin and did not get the message
    Error fetching server status information
    anymore.

    Jan, in your example you said:
    profile.ini
    url=file:/Devo/RTCiBeta/V1/TeamServer/jazz/server/update-site
    featureid=com.ibm.team.rtc.server.feature

    i-license-profile.ini
    url=file:/Devo/RTCiBeta/V1/TeamServer/jazz/server/license-update-site
    featureid=com.ibm.teami.rtci.server.license.standard_ea.feature

    This should be changed to (if my conclusion is correct - Bruce, please comment):
    profile.ini
    url=file:/Devo/RTCiBeta/V1/TeamServer/jazz/server/update-site featureid=com.ibm.team.rtc.server.feature

    i-license-profile.ini
    url=file:/Devo/RTCiBeta/V1/TeamServer/jazz/server/license-update-site featureid=com.ibm.teami.rtci.server.license.standard_ea.feature

    Jan - thanks for your patience. It still seems strange to me that there are no additional messages in the WAS SystemOut.log after you drive the jazz admin URL. A couple of quick ideas :

    1) Is &quot;application&quot; security enabled? You said you were not being prompted when you go to log in to the jazz web admin. You can check this from your WAS admin console. After you login to the WAS admin console, select &quot;Security&quot; on the left hand side, then &quot;Secure administration, applications, and infrastructure&quot;. Locate the &quot;Application security&quot; section and make sure the checkbox &quot;Enable application security&quot; is selected. While I don't think the lack of this setting is the fundamental problem here, it will eventually cause you problems. You'll need to recycle WAS to pick up this setting. <I>.

    2) Would you be able to clear your browser cache and try jazz admin again after this change? Does the output in the SystemOut.log change at all? How about SystemErr.log in the same directory?
