Copying to and from personal dashboards with an RTC 3 JTS

Mark Ingebretson (58515236) | asked Feb 02 '12, 3:18 p.m.
In version 2 of RTC our users have used the dashboard tab copy / paste functionality to copy tabs and viewlets back and forth from project and team dashboards over to personal dashboards. One purpose for this is to back up important pages which can't be backed up any other way other than the full repository backups.

They also develop new viewlets on their own personal dashboards, and then copy to team/project dashboards when ready.

After upgrading to RTC 3, and a remote JTS, the personal dashboards are no longer located with the project/team application dashboards, and the copy function no longer works.

Is there a different way to accomplish these same needs in RTC 3?

The copy & paste feature uses HTML5 local browser storage is allowed only within the same authority (hostname and port) like browser cookies. This is a security feature in the browser. Unfortunately there is no easy way around this. Ideally we would copy it to the main clipboard, but this is also forbidden by browsers.

I believe the real solution here for the long term is to expose the full revision history of dashboards, so that you don't have to back anything up.
