Create Defect from a Test Plan Section

Is it possible to create a Defect from a specific Test Plan Section?

Today it is possible to create a Quality Task from a Specific Test Plan Section. In the other hand, in the Test Plan Review Process, it is necessary to report a Defect into a specific Test Plan Section. This defect should automatically bring information about the Test Plan and TestPlan Section.

For example, when reviewing a TestPlan when found a Defect on TestObjectves Section have a button to automatically create a Defect linked to that Section.

While it's possible to create a defect that's associated to a test plan section that isn't really the purpose that functionality a designed for. When you associate a work item to a section, the dialog allows you to choose the work item type, so you can make it a defect.

There is going to be a limitation with this. That is the fact that only one workitem can be associated with the section. So if you are using that relationship for a task-quality you won't be able to use it for a defect.

Overall, the ALM solution tends to consider a defect to be a problem with the system under test, not a problem with the testing metadata.

Thanks a lot for your response Robert.

We already tried the solution changing the WI Type to Defect. The limitation with this approach is that when you change the WI Type for Defect it loose the WI Name directly load from RQM/RTC Integration.

Considering RTC ALM Process Templates that are integrated with RMC, Defects can be found in many areas or tasks. We can have defects in Requirements, A&D, Implementation or Testing artifacts. For example: in a Test Plan Review Process, the reviewer/approver can find a defect in the test plan that should be corrected to have the process following.

I think that this requirement is really necessary when we have a formal/concrete Validation/Verification and Approval process.

Are the are plans to implement this kind of functionality?
