after some testing with live data tables and finding this post ...

Does this mean there's no way of getting user process role from a BIRT report? (RTC 3.0.1)

That's correct, there is no way of accessing user process roles from within BIRT reports currently.

That's very sad to hear, since it would be great to be able to produce reports (activity / allocations / approval status) on a per role (selection) or aggregated (by user roles / user regions)

These information are important to leverage on the report capabilities.

Only workaround so far would be to create team areas per roles to produce these reports, which is not a good way to do it...

 inside RIDW we have two views:

RIDW.VW_TEAM_ROLE and 
RIDW.VW_TEAM_ROLE_MEMBER_LOOKUP 
These can be used to report in BIRT if using JDBC connection
