I want to contribute a mostly database involved project

When you say "contribute a project", what did you have in mind?

Sorry, my bad. let me explain a little more.
I'm a new grad student and currently attending a job as a software developer. Moreover, I want to be in a project as a developer.
I want to develop modules and get responsiblity in an open-source project.

The Jazz Foundation is not an open source project (the source code is
made available ... but not with an open source license).

The Apache foundation has a variety of open source projects that involve
database applications, so that would be one place to start.
