What is the purpose of Snapshot Promotion?

All "promote" does is change the "owner" of the snapshot. This then
affects the results of queries of the form "search for all snapshots
owned by streamX".
This has been fixed in 3.0.1 ... the operation is now called "set owner".

I believe the GUI always prompts for auto-merging (i.e. it will never
silently auto-merge). When you say "configure manual merge as a
preference", what did you have in mind? Not prompting you for whether
you want to auto-merge?

You can force a manual merge by selecting Resolve Later. However we
always want to use manual merging for this project. Any place to
configure manual merge as a preference?
