Exporting a Requirements document/artifact to Word

Charles Mayo (1611) | asked Jun 01 '11, 3:06 p.m.
Is it possible to export a requirements document/artifact to MS Word, when using the web version of RRC? Our web version is 2.0.0.3.
If so, how is this done.

I believe the V2 Web client does not have this capability--in V2 the design goal for the Web client was "on-line review, commenting and review & approval workflow". Thus you would need to use the rich client for this. You could create the Word version with the rich client and store it in the RRC repository; then people using the browser can download it.

For V3 we moved the document generation capabilities from the client to the server, and all product capabilities are available in the Web client (there is no rich client).

Following the recommendation of creating a Word version (by exploring and reloading the Word version as a document) with the rick client and storing in the RRC repository did not work. Web client users can see the document, however, while in the document right clicking provides a print option, but it is only a screen print and not a print of the document. Also, save target option, resulted in a JAVA error. Any additional feedback is appreciated.

I think I wasn't clear enough (or don't quite understand what you are trying to do or what problems you're having).

In the RRC V2 rich client you can "export to Word" from the right-click context menu. This "prints" the artifact to Word and invites you to save it somewhere. If the save dialog doesn't give you the option of saving it to the RRC repository (I don't recall -- it's been a while now since I've used the V2 rich client), then you can upload the newly created Word doc to a meaningful folder in the RRC repository. Then users of the RRC web client can download the Word doc from there.

Similarly, from the RRC rich client you can generate a doc into Word format that includes multiple RRC artifacts, then upload it to the RRC repository. The report wizard does give you the opportunity to upload it to the repository directly.

Hope that helps.
