windows shell extension for RTC SCM

Joel Loewenstein (311) | asked May 05 '11, 7:23 p.m.
hello there,

i spoke to some windows administrators for systems that primarily use simple scm systems (at least from their point of view) like svn in conjunction with tortoisesvn windows shell extension, so that they can simply use diff and check out/in to version scripts and have a central repository for them.

showing them the eclipse based scm of RTC they felt totally lost.

on one hand they were bound to the eclipse experience and overwhelmed by options on the other hand they missed the simple integration into the windows explorer.

are you aware of any project or requirments accepted by jazz.net to create such a simple client like tortoisesvn?

or are you aware of any other alternatives to enable such folks to make use of work item management of RTC while also using the integrated scm instead of svn

I have had Windows users ask for exactly the same thing. Something like "TortiseRTC" as they are experiences with TortiseCVS and TortiseSVN.

The is work item 43272. It is marked as high priority as a potential
candidate for next year's release. Please feel free to add a comment to
indicate your interest/support.

RTC is so deficient compared to TortoiseSVN on Windows, when can we expect something as useful as TortoiseSVN or TortoiseGIT on Windows for this decrepit configuration management GUI?

I tried adding the Shell Extensions in 6.0 and Windows Explorer consistently crashed, and there was no easy way to uninstall it.  I'm not even sure if it comes close or how to use it at the present time.
