show-flows removed from beta3 ?

Why is the show-flows view removed in beta3 ?

We found this view very usefull in keeping track of our stream/workspace hierarchy.

Daan.

Yes it was removed. It had many usability and performance problems that we didn't get a chance to fix. If you really want it back though, you can uncomment the actions in the filsystem.ide.ui plugin.xml. Of course, the usual disclaimer applies if you do this.

Thanks, I have re-enabled it.

I hope it will be enabled again in a later release, since it has proven to be a very usefull (if not essential) feature.
It also greatly helped explaining the concepts of jazz source control during the various demo's I have given within our organisation.

You mention "performance issues". Does usage of the flow browser impact overall server performance, or is it just performance issues for the user of the flow-browser ?

thanks

Daan.

I like it too... the performance problems are related to the auto-expansion of flow targets and will affect the client only. For example. if you show the flows for a stream with 100s of repo workspaces which flow to it the editor will go unresponsive for a couple minutes.

That must have been a heartbreaking cut to make; that UI was really beautiful. I only used it to demonstrate small streams/workspaces so I never ran into the performance problems.

Hopefully it'll make it's way back in another release.

I tried uncommenting the actions from the specified plugin.xml.... but didn't work for me. Is this trick supposed to work also for the 1.0 GA release? We are using:

Version: 1.0
Build id: I20080618-1642

And we'd REALLY like to get the visual stream browser back. How can we do that?

Yes it should work for 1.0 GA !

But i think you should better try RTC 1.0.1 ! Source Control Flow Editor is now fully functionnal

Glad to see it's been taken care of already. Tx Sbastien.

The blog entry below has details, but the short answer is:

In the context menu for a workspace or a stream, select New->Flow_Diagram

Cheers,
Geoff
