RTC Project tasks and linking

m sawires (1463268) | asked Mar 07 '11, 12:29 p.m.
Hello,
I have some questions regarding RTC 3.0 project linking and tasks?
1) Can I link 2 projects in order to have a task in one timeline that has its own separate timeline and subtasks?
2) Can I also have the deliverables of a subtask filter up to the main task in the top level project?

Thanks in advance for your help.

What do you mean when you are saying "project linking"? Do you mean create
project associations in Links tab of ProjectArea Editor on rich client or
in Overview tab of ProjectArea Editor on web client?

(1) A task is associated with a timeline when it is Planned-For a given
iteration (it is associated with the timeline of that iteration). So
task cannot be in one timeline and have "its own" separate timeline.
But a task can of course have subtasks. But a task in one timeline can
have sub-tasks in a different timeline.

(2) What do you have in mind by "filter up"? In certain plan modes,
you can see all the sub-types of a task, including ones in another
timeline. But those tasks do not contribute to the "progress" or
"load" in the plan in that other timeline.

Cheers,
Geoff
