Comparing work item states

Hi all,

I need a way to compare different states between work items? is there a way to do that through api? I would like the same behavior as shown in the history tab of work items.

I knew how to get the different states but I don't know how to find out what the differences are between them. In worst case I suppose I have to manually compare each attribute to find out the differences.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.
