BIRT: Reuse existing .rptdesign templates ?

Kenneth Munch (13522124) | asked Jul 14 '10, 10:02 a.m.
Hi,

How do I reuse an existing .rptdesign template ?
I'd like to make minor changes to an existing template, but how do I copy that and save it as a new template ?

Thanks in advance

First, install the BIRT tooling into your RTC client. Instructions on
doing so are in the "Prerequisites" section here:

https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Main/ReportsCreatingANewReport20

Next, create a project in your workspace. Import the .rptdesign file
into your workspace. Then you can open it with the BIRT report designer.
Note that our out-of-the-box .rptdesign files can be found in your RTC
client installation area, in the com.ibm.team.examples.reports.common
plug-in folder.

In the BIRT editor, make whatever changes you want and save the file.
(Alternatively, you can make a renamed copy of the file before you start
editing, to keep your changes separate). Then, deploy your report -
instructions on how to do this are in the above wiki page, in the
"Deploying the Report" section.

Let me know if the steps aren't clear.

Hi James,

When I select to import the existing .rptdesign file, what should be the import source?

Thanks,
Rohit
