What is the purpose of "Tags" field

sorry that you weren't successful creating new groupings. It must be possible to create them. I couldn't find any additional info either.

The tag field is used to add text tags to work items e.g. next_meeting, interesting, rel2,..... It supports tagging like you can find in several web applications. There is also a tag cloud available that displays the tags by number of occurrence.

To use it for grouping I'd suggest to remove the ability to create tags from most of the users and have one or two maintaining the tags that can be assigned.

We have not had success layout out our Plans so the Grouping is based upon values of an Enumeration attribute we created.

However, I noticed we could group by "Tags".

What is the purpose of this field? We created an Enumeration attribute called "Function" with values of Requirements, Development, Verification with the hopes that we could group the Taskboard items by the common functional roles.

Should we use "Tags" instead to accomplish this?

you should consider posting to jazz.extends. It could be necessary to create an extension to group by custom fields.

There is a story to create what you want, I think http://jazz.net/jazz/web/projects/Rational%20Team%20Concert#action=com.ibm.team.workitem.viewWorkItem&id=117868. So I assume it is not yet supported.
