Issues with Ignored Resources

Ewan Chalmers (48134) | asked May 27 '10, 5:43 a.m.
Since I updated from RTC 2.0 to 2.0.0.2 some time ago I have noticed issues with Ignored Resources.

I think the default ignored resources must have changed between these release, with result that when first starting RTC, it notified that various .dll, .exe and .so files would be ignored.

The issues are:

1. I can't get my updates to ignored resources preference to "stick". I can update the preference while RTC is up (e.g. remove the ignore for *.exe) and get those resources shared again. But when I restart RTC, the default ignores are reapplied and the resources are ignored again.

2. Updating the ignore preferences is a bit flaky. I find that to successfully get RTC to recognize that an update has been made and apply it in my workspace (e.g. to remove *.exe from ignores), I need to

* untick, close dialog
* tick, close dialog
* untick, close dialg

On the second untick, the change is recognized and RTC applies the change, sharing the affected resources.

I'm back around to this.

(I only need to reconfigure ignored resources occasionally - whenever I need to deliver update to an .exe).

Another aspect of the problem is... having updated ignored resource preference (e.g. untick *.exe), upon restarting RTC the "Update Platform Ignores" task runs automatically and gets jammed at 16%.

It is impossible to cancel the task. It is impossible to execute other tasks (e.g. save a file, close a project) as everything blocks on the update task. It is impossible to exit RTC without killing it. When you kill it, same problem on restart.

I remember having this same vicious circle problem before, when I last posted. I can't remember how I got past it.

OK, I think the hanging task issue is that sometimes the "Verify Ignore List Change" dialog does not display. I guess it is there, waiting for confirmation, but is not displayed. Hence the blocked task - it is waiting on user input.

I can get around by restarting RTC. If on restart the "Verify Ignore List Change" dialog does not display, I'm in the hanging task problem again, so exit, kill and start again until the dialog does show. When it does show, I can accept it and the task completes quickly.

Everything is then OK again (except of course the updates to ignored resources have reverted again to defaults, rather than my preference).

What may have helped me reach a good restart (dialog shows) was to update ignore preferences again before exiting and killing. This may have helped or maybe just coincidental and there is some other reason behind why sometimes the dialog does not display.

We have the same problem but with the .class file and bin folder, we need to exclude this file and folder of the ignored resourses list for all deployment team in the organization. We have RTC 4.0.6 and we want to know if it could be to configure for project area or global level.

Thank you...
