Sorting in Plan Mode
Hi,
I would like to know how I can sort work items by (summary) name. Currently, there are only the predefined sorting options available (creation date, estimate, planned time, etc..). Is it also possible for the user to then make minor rearrangements which will hold after the page is refreshed?
If I use "User Defined" - will the order of the work items be the same for the other Plan Modes that use this sorting?
Thanks in advance,
Vince-

Hi,
I am not sure you are aware of it. In the Process Configuration>Project Configuration>Configuration Data>Planning>Plan Mode elements you can add custom Attributes for sorting.

I was looking into this but I only see three attributes available: Severity, Priority and Story Points.
How do I add more?

Hi,
I think you can only select specific attributes e.g. the ones you created when customizing. It only appears to support specific types of attribute values too. Which ones are you looking for?
It probably only considers the attributes from the "Plan Attribures>Attribute Mapping". If there is a way to further configer it, it would be most likely directly in the XML. I have no further information an how to. Maybe in the RTC Wiki or the new and noteworthy?

Hi Ralph,
Thanks for your reply. I was not able to find anything solid on jazz.net regarding adding other attributes to sort on...
I think maybe if I can add 'Summary' in the attribute mapping option I would be able to sort by it - but it doesn't seem to allow me to. I am referring to this doc http://jazz.net/library/article/201 under the 'Attribute Mapping' section.

Hi Vincent,
A pure text field seems not to be sortable. Would it make sense anyway?
Enumerations and numbers are sortable. So adding a custom attribute of type integer or enumeration would be sortable.

Hi Ralph,
The reason for this post was to find a way to sort the list of backlog work items by catalog number (eg. by defect number). We would then like to set a precedence by rearranging the work items wrt each other and have this reflected within all plan modes.
It seems we may have to settle for the 'User Defined' option...
Thanks,

Hi Vincent,
did you try if it sorts for integer fields? If not or you catalog number is alphanumeric I'd suggest to use the user defined for now and request an enhancement if it is important.

Thanks for the advice Ralph. I will take this back and see if we need to open an enhancement.

How do you sort on custom Attributes?
In that editor, I was only able to pick from the fixed list of
"priority", "severity", and "story points" attributes.
Cheers,
Geoff
