icons for Components
I've noticed that the tetris / tee icon for a component is sometimes "empty" (just an outline) or other times "filled in" (solid blue). What is the difference between these two?

If I understand your question, a filled in icon means that the component
is loaded into your Eclipse workspace. Cheers, Geoff marcelk wrote: I've noticed that the tetris / tee icon for a component is sometimes |

I think it has to do with ownership, however, I've not been able to replicate it. |
You are correct. The yellow person means the component is owned by a user
instead of a team area. It does not affect the usability of the component. Just a little indication that a user (as opposed to a team) has control of changing access control for that component.
