How to add a filter to a DNG module from a widget using an api call to set the filter selection criteria?

Is it possible to add a filter to a DNG module from a widget using an api call to set the filter selection criteria?
For exemple we have a widget that is searching for diffrent artifacts that have a certain value (which the DNG filter does not offer filtering) and the widget returns the artifacts ids that match that value, but you need to add the artifacts ids manually to the artifact id filter.
It would be easier to have a button in the widget and when you click it it would just add the values to the artifact id filter.
