How to attach or link artifact in work item as file path rather than file?

Richard Wu (132) | asked Nov 24 '18, 6:42 p.m.

I cannot store sensitive artifacts in the work items by uploading them directly to the work item. I need to be able to upload the file path to a network location to the work item, so that users can simply click the attached file path to the artifact instead of the actual artifact itself.

In work items there is an Add External Link button in the toolbar of the Description and similar HTML enabled fields. You can add a link from there. You need to write the link with non-Windows paths and depending on what version of RTC you are using there may be an issue around specifying a mapped drive. You can also add a link to the file manually in the Description field itself.

Is that the kind of thing you were looking for?

It's not, sorry. I'm looking for a way to have the "Select a file to upload" attachment window to come up, but when I open a file it attaches the file path instead of the file itself.

Is there a way to do that? Or should I begin looking into custom link types?

This sounds like a different question to before. What browser and CLM version are you using? Could you check this solution?
