Is there a simple way to schedule/execute a Plan snapshot outside the UI

I need to track progress on a team (using work items for tracking not SCM explicitly), and we use snapshots (frequently)to compare what has changed, yet this requires a user to create snapshot.

I see that snapshots are accessible via scmtools, yet not sure if that could be applied to a plan snapshot

The scm command line is only for scm data, and cannot be used for planning data (such as a plan snapshot).
