Plan view setting

If I set the plan view Display property with value tree -> related, I can see only the workitems planned on plan iteration.
Is it correct?
Why if I set tree --> parent - children I can see also the children of different iterations?

Different link types have different behavior based on requirements.  Parent child has changed over time due to enhancement requests.
