 Hi

I'm using the approvals system on the workitems tab "Approvals", but I'm wondering if there is any place to put comments or make them mandatory when reject or approve besides the comments section

No, there are no comments for approvals. It might be possible to create a custom advisor/precondition that checks that the user that just approved added a (regular) comment to the comment section today. It is likely not going to be easy to code this up, as there is no real relationship between the comment and the approval.
