RTC 2.0 - Language in WEB UI
7 answers
You can set your preferred language in your browser; RTC will display in that language.
Instructions for setting your preferred language vary by browser, but are similar.
Here are instructions for Firefox 3:
Choose Tools > Options from the Firefox main menu
Choose the Content tab of the dialog
Click the Choose... button
Click the down arrow next to the "Select a language to add..."
Click the language you want to use
Click the Add button
Use the Move Up/ Move Down buttons to arrange the languages in your order of preference.
Click OK in both of the dialogs.
RTC will try to display in the language that appears at the top of the list first. If it cannot, it will try the next language in the list, until it finds
a language it supports.

I can start Eclipse with -nl en_US to use english.
But how can I do that in WEB UI?
I change the "Regional Settings" in my profile / work environment, but this don't work for that.
Thanks
Hi Martha,
Yes, I knew this workaround. But it is not exactly what I need.
If I change the language of my browser, all the sites will be in EN.
But I want only the RTC in EN.
I think the profile / regional settings could do that.
So, I opened a enhancement, ok?

Hello Bruno,
you can set the regional settings for the server to english at least for
Apache. To do that add the -Duser.language=en_US to the JAVA_OPS.
Here is what I did:
set JAVA_OPTS=-Duser.language=en_US -Djava.awt.headless=true -DSQLSERVER_JDBC="%SQLSERVER_JDBC%"
-DORACLE_JDBC="%ORACLE_JDBC%" -DDB2I_JDBC="%DB2I_JDBC%" -DDB2Z_JDBC="%DB2Z_JDBC%"
-Dorg.eclipse.emf.ecore.plugin.EcorePlugin.doNotLoadResourcesPlugin=true
-DJAZZ_HOME=file:///%PATH_URL%conf -Dcom.ibm.team.repository.tempDir=%TEMP%
-Xmx700M
I also added this flag in the Eclipse.ini.
It works for me.

Hello bruno.braga,
I figured I had also to set the preferred language to EN-US in firefox and
make german the 2nd preference....
Another option that worked for me in the past was using the Installation
manager installation and avoid installing the other language support files.
I haven't tried this with 2.0.

Hi Bruno,
absolutely understandable. I already created a work item in this context
Defect 73969. There is some Info on how it works. You might want to check
WI's about this issue and file your own work item.
So far, the only solutions I have found is:
- don't install the locale information on the server and the clients - everybody
gets english then.
- Force the loacale in the eclipse.ini and the Apache startup.bat and set
the browser prefered language .
Maybe there is another way. I just don't know. Let me know if you find one

Hi Ralph,
I would like to change the language of the RTC for my user (not for
all users). So I can't remove the language of the installation.
..and as I commented, change the language in the browser change the
language of several sites, not only of the RTC.
I would like to see all the sites in my native language, unless the
RTC.. hehe... strange but useful because many people don't like verbal
translation - translation of technical terms. So I prefer the RTC in
EN.

I solved it by using "Quick Locale Switcher" plugin for Firefox. It allows you to have different locales for different websites.
I know it's still just a workaround (I would also appreciate user language configuration), but better than nothing.
All the best,
Jan
