We only support Openfire which is to understand that Openfire is tested and other aren't. Still, other might work well as XMPP is a well defined protocol. GoogleTalk, which we support, uses XMPP as well.

As of 1.0.1 the RTC instant messaging component does not utilize the proxy settings. Defect 63208 already tracks this.
