Can I see pending approvals in a plan view?
I have a customer who would like to be able to see what work items have pending approvals in a plan. Is this possible? I was hoping it could use Colors to highlight items, but approvals doesn't appear in the list.
I can't display the column either. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing?

I don't think so. If you look at the attributes associated with a work item, there is no "approval" in that set (which is why it doesn't appear as an available field to color on).
You can, however, query on approvals and approval state (query casts a slightly wider net than just work item attributes). You could create a Work Item query to locate these and install it into the Plan's Dashboard. Not quite what you are looking for, but at least it would exist in the context of the plan.
This seems like a natural thing to be interested in (and coloring a nice way to surface it) -- I'd recommend filing an enhancement request for this (and if you do, please add the link in a comment here).
