Query to display Retrospective work items AND child tasks

"As an Agile Coach I want to display all Retrospective work items and their associated Task work items for multiple teams so that I can see the status of our Scrum teams' improvement actions in one view."

I asked our ScrumMasters to create a Retrospective work item for each sprint. I also asked ScrumMasters to create one or two Task work items as children of each Retrospective work item so that teams account for the work that's required to make the improvements.

Instead of the predefined query that displays the Retrospective work items,

Sprint 4 Retrospective - Scrum Team A
Sprint 4 Retrospective - Scrum Team B
Sprint 4 Retrospective - Scrum Team C

I would like to run a query that returns the Retrospective work items and related improvement tasks.

Sprint 4 Retrospective - Scrum Team A
Improvement task 1
Improvement task 2
Sprint 4 Retrospective - Scrum Team B
Improvement task 1
Improvement task 2
Sprint 4 Retrospective - Scrum Team C
Improvement task 1
Improvement task 2

If you think that this can be done out-of-the-box, please let me know.

I prefer that teams maintain these work items in their own backlog instead of creating a separate backlog for improvement tasks.

In the Eclipse UI, you could create a query for the retrospectives and
enable the hierarchical mode from the work item view's menu
'Relationships'.

In the Web UI, we don't have the hierarchical support yet, but you could
show the references to the child tasks in a separate column by selecting
the 'Children' attribute in the Result Layout.

Thank you for your reply Patrick.

I experimented with the Eclipse "Work Items" view and learned how to show the children. You taught me something new today that I'll be able to apply to other purposes. :-)

I also created a query that generates the Web view of "Retrospective" work items with links to children.

My only wish is that there is a way to expand all children in the Eclipse UI hierarchical view. When there are many Scrum teams and Retrospective work items, it takes some time to expand the tree.

That's true. There is work item

tracking this request.

On Windows Numpad * expands all children. It's native feature of the
Widget.

Hello,

On the same topic but going a bit further, I would like to build a query showing attributes of the Story AND of the tasks on the same row.

Is that something supported? If so how can I set it up?

Many thanks
Claire
