Does Archivng a project area free up DB space?

Sunita Dinakar (11413842) | asked Oct 10 '13, 1:43 a.m.
 Hi,

We are trying to free up our DB space and one of the measures was to move all the artifacts of a project area to a different repository and archive this project area. My question is, when we archive the project area, does it free DB space ?

Thanks
Sunita

Hi Sunita,
archiving a Project Area does not free up DB space.
This fact results in the Plan Jam item for physically removing Project Areas.
You can find and vote this item here:
Ability to delete projects

Hope this helps,
Simon

One other follow up question - If we find a way to move work items across repository or delete work items in a project area, will that free up DB space?

work items can be deleted using the "delete" function of JazzAdmins:

As this deletion means physically deletion it should free up space. But work items do not use so much space.

You can remove content of SCM files also. This would free up space, too.
