start source code data query programmatically

We use the enterprise edition of rtc. For an custom editor we need an index based search against the jazz source control for the current stream. In the enterprise extensions of the view "Work Items" i can start a "Source Code Data Query" with some search attributes.
Is there a way to start such a query programmatically? How can i add a custom search attribute?
