Updating an existing process?
We've been using Jazz for quite some time, and it appears that our
Eclipse Way process is out-of-date with the 1.0 release. For example, we are missing Retrospective, and Track Item Build work items. Is there a defined way to update a process such that our customizations will not be lost? Bryan |

Hi Bryan,
The only way to merge changes from a process template into an existing project area is manually. You can copy and paste the configuration data from the Eclipse Way template into your project area in the Process Configuration Source tab of the editors. First, select all of the text in the Process Configuration Source tab of your project area. Copy it and paste it into another document as a backup. (Just in case :)). Then, open the Eclipse Way Process template from the Process Templates view and navigate to the Process Configuration Source tab. Copy the entire <data> element from under the <project> element from your Eclipse Way Process template; there will be many nested <configuration> elements you will copy. Replace the entire <data> element under the <project> element in your project area. Then, go to the Process Attachments section of the Overview page of the Eclipse Way Process template editor. Save the .gif files that are referenced in the configuration data but that do not exist in your project area. In the Process Attachment section of the Overview page of your project area editor, add these .gif files. After you save your project area editor, you will see the new work item types when you create a work item. If you do this, you will lose any customizations you have made to the work item configuration in your project area. You will not lose any customizations you have made to the permissions, roles, iteration structure and operation behavior. By the way, I have never done this on a production server, only on a test project. Martha Jazz Team |
Martha, thank you. This seems to have worked.
