We can download workitems from RTC in csv format.
For example i have query which lists down all the defects in RTC,when the query is run it gives the result set containing the list of all available defects.

I would modify those defect records in excel and want to import them back to rtc.

Please suggest a way when these modified work items could be posted back to the repository overriding the older records.

You can import the updated workitems using csv import and it will update the same in RTC repo records.
You will be able to do a bulk update in RC Web client as well.
Which version of RTC do you use?
