There is no API to specify feature content (Java, or Ant that is based on the Java API) at this time. Open a feature request.
However, if you have automatic feature content enabled from the Administration->Configuration page, you can control the files that will be set with a feature content from the admin/repository/advancedConfiguration.faces page.

thanks for the prompt response - i'll check out the admin panels and consider raising a feature request.
while i'm asking, are there any plans to produce ant docs along the lines of http://ant.apache.org/manual/ -> "ant tasks" ??
