Total Estimate Time Not Shown in Parent Work Item

This has probably been discussed before, but I could not find the thread.

I create a work item which has some subwork items. In the "Planned Items" tab of the "Plan Editor", I can see the parent work items and its children work items nested. However, the parent work item does not display the total estimate time of its children work items.

I think I know why and would like to confirm. Since the parent work item can itself have an estimate time, the estimate time area (next to the clock icon) is used to display the parent estimate time and not the total estimate time of its children. Is my understanding correct?

If so then perhaps we need a work item group that groups work items.

Hi,

this is correct. However, you can see the accumulated time of all work
items that belong to a group, below the respective progress bar.
Additionally, you can see for each group how much work was already done.

You can create and nest custom groups as required in the Folders mode.
Then assign the work items to the groups.

I hope this answers your question.

In addition the plans preview mode show the progress of the child work
items plus the sum of all estimates. See attached screen shot
