Calculation of Load Bar, Progress Bar and Expected Work Hour

James Labrie (18123818) | asked Dec 09 '10, 8:28 p.m.
Hi

I'm now looking for the documents which explain how Load Bar, Progress Bar and Expected Work Hours are calculated.
I only found following links.

http://jazz.net/library/article/202
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/rtc/v2r0m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.team.apt.doc/topics/t_review_progress.html

Reading the documents, I might understand how Load Bar and Progress Bar are calculated.
But those documents do not explain the calculation of Expected Work Hours.
So let me verify if my understanding is correct.

Conditions:
Start Date of the iteration is Dec 6 2010 12:00 AM
End Date of the iteration is Dec 20 2010 12:00 AM
The Work Days of the user are Monday to Friday.
The Quitting time is 5:00 PM on all days.
The sum of the estimate of workitems are 50 hours.
Current time is Dec 10 2010 10:00 PM

In above case, the user has 10 work days, so it is estimated that 5 hours of workitems are completed every day.
And current time is Dec 10 2010 10:00 PM, so "Expected Work Hours" is 25 Hours.

Is my understanding correct?

Also, is there any document which explains how "Expected Work Hours" is calculated?
And also, is there another document which explains how Load Bar and Progress Bar are calculated?

James

Expected work is how much work would be done if the proportion of work
that you have done for the iteration (out of the total estimated work)
were equal to the proportion of the iteration time that has completed.
Expected work is indicated by a vertical bar in the Progress Bar. It is
either to the right of the red bar (if the actual work done is less than
the expected work) or to the left of the light green bar (if the actual
work is greater than the expected work).

With 3.0, you can now have the assignment of a person to a team area
vary over time (which is good, because that's how the real world is),
but I haven't had a chance to verify exactly how this affects the load
and progress bars. Perhaps someone from the planning team could provide
those details.

Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Geoff

Thank you for your answer.
Please let me ask one more question.
Do you know if there is some other document besides following things?

I'm not the best one for finding documents on jazz.net (I count on
google for that :-). Perhaps someone else has some pointers for James?
