Questions about RAM features in RMC, used with ClearCase

I'm posting this on behalf of Todd Dunnavant:

Situation: A team is using Rational Method Composer 7.5.0.1, ClearCase 7.1, and RAM 7.1.1.1. They are using ClearCase dynamic views and single-stream UCM.

Questions: related to use of the RAM client features within RMC:

1. We know parallel-stream UCM is supported. Can you explain if single-stream could also work, and if not, why?

2. We know that snapshot views with UCM are supported. Can you explain if dynamic views could also work, and if not, why?

3. There is a ClearCase page under the Asset Management Preferences item, which enables us to browse for a local shared drive where snapshots are to be managed. When I browse to a share where my snapshots are maintained, I see nothing in the subsequent control on that page -- which includes space for view tags and view paths. There appears to be no documentation on this Preferences page. What is this for, and what should I see when I browse to the share that contains my snapshots?

Thanks in advance for your help!

1. We know parallel-stream UCM is supported. Can you explain if
single-stream could also work, and if not, why?

RAM does not currently support single stream UCM as the way the VOBs,
views and the commands that work them are different for a parallel
stream UCM vs. single stream UCM.
Some of the important points in the design discussions were:
** Single stream UCM could not support branching which was one of our
usecase
** We deemed regular parallel stream UCM more common than single stream
and hence tackled it first

2. We know that snapshot views with UCM are supported. Can you explain
if dynamic views could also work, and if not, why?

So there are two scenarios for using views - when you submit/update an
asset, and when you import one.
ClearCase can be set up in many permutations, and for submit/update we
have unfortunately focused more on snapshot views at that point. We can
look into adding support for dynamic views too.
For asset import it is a real requirement that we use snapshot views,
for the use case of being able to work disconnected on the asset.

3. .....What is this for, and what should I see when I browse to
the share that contains my snapshots?

The 'Created views' section gives details about snapshot views the
Eclipse client had to create when importing assets. It does not list the
views in the folder selected above in the 'Shared folder' section.
When you import an asset with CC artifacts, we create a snapshot view in
the 'Shared folder' you selected, and an entry should then show up in
the 'Created views' table below. The table is for informational purposes
only so that you have a track of what was done, as there is other record
of its creation.

We will update our documentation to be more clearer on this.

Hope that helps.
Regards,
Sri.
