Update sites for RTC extensions

We have features and plugins that extend RTC. We have our own provision profile .ini files. Do you recommend that we use the update sites that RTC provides and simply reference our feature (via featureId) in the .ini file or should we use different update sites for our extensions altogether?

Are there benefits and drawbacks to using one approach over the other? Also, is there any documentation for RTC extenders that would explain how best to package and deploy their extensions?
