DCC system requirements in 6.0.3

Natsumi Yokoyama (209387101) | asked Apr 17 '17, 12:48 a.m.

Hi

Following article is valid for CLM 6.0.3?
https://jazz.net/library/article/1433

My customer plans to upgrade CLM 4.0.6 to 6.0.3. They need trend reports, so that DCC components will add on existing servers.
In order to estimate necessary system resources, we have read this article(1433), but this article is based on 5.0.

Hi Natsumi san,

Given that the article 1433 is primarily comparing the performance between DCC ETL job and Java ETL / Insight Data Manager ETL job (and ultimately to encourage users to migrate to DCC job), it is not really useful information unless your customer is currently running Java ETL or DM ETL job on 4.0.6.

I believe the following statement has remained unchanged regardless of the DCC version.
"It is recommended that DCC is installed on a separate server from CLM for better performance"

So if you are planning to add DCC component on top of CLM components, it is against the advice and most likely it requires more H/W resources than explained in this article. I am not aware if DCC v6 requires significantly more resources than DCC v5. Ensure not to install LQE component as it is resource hungry.

Hi, Sarai-san

Thank you for your answer.
I myself agree with your comments.  DCC should be installed on a separate server.
I want to estimate how much resources are required, but it is a little bit difficult to judge from existing published documents.

My customer uses Java ETL job on 4.0.6.

Hi Natsumi san,

As long as I know, there is no document explaining explicitly how much H/W resource is required, because it is different by each usecase (eg. how much data in database, how much data is modified each day, how many times DCC job runs per day...). So the only way to estimate precisely is to verify it in the pilot project in your own environment.

Here is the general guidance for deployment and installation, but it does not mention how much resource is required for each topology.
https://jazz.net/help-dev/clm/topic/com.ibm.jazz.install.doc/topics/c_topology_overview.html

Nowadays many customers are deploying applications on Cloud. So they do not need to worry about the resource sizing, as they can add more resource later easily.

If you are running Java ETL now and have enough resource, then these resources can be used for DCC in CLM6. And if DCC job will be running only at midnight (when no one is using CLM application) then you might install CLM and DCC altogether without impacting CLM performance. But this is just my optimistic speculation...
