Creating workitem through oslc

HI,
Can I give the state of a workitem as "Inprogress" while creating a workitem in oslc?
I mean, I am trying to create a workitem via oslc 2.0 and trying to give the state as "In progress" in oslc body, but after creating, the state is new.

The workflow determines the initial state so you would need to create the item and then do a state transition. You may be able to do this in a script.

Do you have any link or example that would help me for updating the state?

I tried getting the response of the created work item in oslc and updated the state to progress, but it dint work.
