Can't import Bugzilla bugs because can't save work item
I can't import any work item onto an existing Project Area.
I could do it before and it stop working after we restore the server repository to the backup database. I checked that I am admin role in both the project and team area and I can create work item and save it without issue. I restarted the Jazz and WAS and still can't import a single bug because I can't save any of them. The Team Adviser display: Problem An error occurred during "Save Work Item". And click Why did this happen?, gives a dialog saying: The operation is not goveened by process Here are the import errors: Multiple status messages Could not create work item from bug 551 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 628 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 668 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 686 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1123 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1129 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1166 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1226 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1277 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1377 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1630 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1660 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1835 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 1895 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 2299 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 2383 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 2500 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 2530 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 3364 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 3382 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 3388 Exception saving work item Could not create work item from bug 3768 Exception saving work item |

Hello ghu,
I have tried to create an extension to the RTC client. It also failed to create work items (actually save the working copy) in the beginning. The issue was that required attributes e.g. the summary or the description where not set. I'd check the mapping. Is it a standard mapping? Do you map data to all required attributes? Did you introduce a new attribute to the RTC work item type that is claimed to be required? I hope it is this simple, Ralph I can't import any work item onto an existing Project Area. |
Hi,
Is there any more information in your server logs? Have a look there, and if you're still not sure, please post the relevant parts of the log here. Thanks, Craig Chaney Jazz server team ghu wrote: I can't import any work item onto an existing Project Area. |
Hi, Guys,
Thanks for the response. I just come back from a long weekend rest to get my brain cleared a bit. I haven't got a chance to check the things you guys want me to do, but we tried restored the Jazz repository database again and I tried a small set of three bugs import and it still failed but with more details error message this time: Problem An error occurred during "Save Work Item". CRJAZ0215I Item not found: com.ibm.team.workitem.common.internal.model.impl.CategoryHandleImpl@1d1c1d1c (stateId: <unset>, itemId: , origin: <unset>, immutable: <unset>) And the explaination is: The operation is not governed by process The Save teamArea action is successful so I don't have permission issue there. What are the stateId, origin, immutable status meaning? |
I don't see anything unusual in the server log. And two required attributes (Filed Against and Summary) are all mapped properly. We introduced some new attributes but non is required one.
I also need to say that it worked when we started with a fresh new server repository and project area. Then we decided to restore to the backup DB which was done right after we created the new project area, then we can't save any imported work item. Another strange thing is that after we restored to the backup DB, I still can see the work item categories and Releases created by the previous import from the RTC rich client when I tested to create new work item and save them directly. But they should not be in the DB as we restore to one before we tried any import. Or they are actually stored on the client side by any chance? |
Hi, I think I've got this one.
It is the RTC client I have used to do the import. Apparently, after we restore the server repository, the client needs to be restarted to catch up with the server change. Ohterwise, the old work item categories created by the previous import will cause the failure. I found this as I have different versions of RTC client. When I couldn't do the import with RTC1.0.1.1, I close it and switch to RTC1.1.1 client, and I don't see the old work item categories anymore. And I tested the import, it worked. Then I switch to start the original RTC1.0.1.1 client which gave me trouble again, and this time I don't see the old work item categories and the test also works. So I think this is some kind of less-desired behaviour of RTC's sync between server and client. The client should be able to pick up changes in server automatically. For me and now I'll just have to remember to restart my RTC client when I do something like restoring repository DB on the server side. |

Hello ghu,
great to hear that it finally worked for you. So the issue was indeed generated by a required attribute (work item category) that couldn't be set, right? Thanks, Ralph Hi, I think I've got this one. |
Ralph,
No. The issue is with the RTC rich client. After I restored the Jazz server repository, the client apparently will not be in sync with the change completely. For instance, it will keep the work categories created in the old repository. This has caused the import to fail although I am not sure exactly what caused the failure. Restart RTC client aftre the server repository restore will avoid this issue. |
