About RPE licenses needed to modify exisiting word templates of RRC
Hello,
According to the following information center, RPE needs two types of licenses. One is to modify reports via RPE document studio. The other is to generate report from remote client.
- What kinds of licenses are needed to be purchaced, when we modify exisiting word templates of RRC?
- Only the license for RPE document studio is needed to be purchaced?
In order to modify RRC's exisiting word templates, we do not create any new report via RPE. So that, the number of machines, on which a RPE document studio is installed, is equal to the number of RPE licenses to be purchaced?
(CLM)Creating document-style reports in the Requirements Management application
- If you want to create a custom Rational® Publishing Engine (RPE) based report template to create a document-style report, you will need to be familiar with the REST APIs for accessing report information. Note that a full RPE license is required to create RPE based report templates.
(RPE)License requirements
- Multiple Document Studio instances or local document generations started on the same computer consume a single license. Remote document generation consumes a second license.
Thank you in advance

Hi Natsumi,
If you want to modify RPE reports, you need the same license as for creating them, but it's only needed for editing and authoring the reports; once the report has been created and is uploaded to RRC, you will not be consuming that license anymore (as for that report matters).
You could probably use some floating licenses, the amount of licenses you will need is going to be equal to the number of people modifying templates at the same time plus an extra license for execution (during the edition of the templates).
You should contact the sales team so they can provide guidance on how many licenses you will need.
It's very important to remember, you will only be using the license during authoring of the templates, to execute the reports on RRC it is not needed
