Workaround: RRDI does not work with the DB2 Express-C edition

Workaround Summary

There are two editions of DB2 Express: DB2 Express-C Edition, and DB2 Express Server Edition. Rational Reporting for Development Intelligence (RRDI) supports the DB2 Express Server edition, but not the DB2 Express-C edition. If the customer uses DB2 Express-C edition by mistake, the RRDI setup will fail while deploying the Cognos reporting components during the RRDI Setup process.

Problem

While deploying the Cognos reporting components in the Rational Reporting for Development Intelligence setup wizard, the reporting components might fail to be deployed, displaying the following error in the final step, “Wait for the report server to initialize and set the Rational Reporting style”:

com.ibm.rational.rrdi.setup.biserver.common.RRDIBIServerException: Cannot log onto the report server

The cogserver.log file in the [RRDI-Install-Location]/cognos/logs directory will also show the following error message:

DPR-DPR-1035 Dispatcher detected an error. CM-SYS-5152 Content Manager is unable to update the negotiation table. The data types of the operands for the operation “=” are not compatible or comparable.. SQLCODE=-401, SQLSTATE=42818, DRIVER=3.63.75 DPR-DPR-1026 Unable to register the dispatcher in Content Manager.

Workaround

This issue may be caused by using the unsupported DB2 Express-C edition. The user will need to use the DB2 Express Server Edition instead of the DB2 Express-C edition.
