Workaround: How to configure PDF output for Rational Reporting for Document Generation (RRDG)

Summary

How to configure PDF output for Rational Reporting for Document Generation (RRDG).

More Information

Why does the output of ‘Print to PDF’ look very different from the Microsoft Word output? The PDF engine used by default is not based on the Microsoft Word output. You can configure the PDF engine by changing the fronting.properties file.

Workaround

When printing an artifact, Rational Requirements Composer uses an older PDF engine by default. This is a more stable engine for very large reports (over 1500 pages); however, the output is not as good as the the output from the new PDF engine, which is the same one that is used for Word.

To configure the PDF Output of the Reporting service (RRDG), you need to change the fronting.properties file:
com.ibm.rdm.fronting.server.publish.useOldPDFEngineOnPrint
This file is used to enable the New PDF engine for printing artifacts to PDF. By default this value is set to true.

com.ibm.rdm.fronting.server.publish.useOldPDFEngineAsDefault is used to set the default value of the variable Use old PDF generator (for reports over 3000 pages) in the report wizard. By default, this value is set to false.

You also need to configure com.ibm.rdm.fronting.server.publish.Font and specify the name of the font to be used to generate the reports with the old PDF engine. It is suggested that you select a font that contains the characters for your language (e.g., for Japanese, you should specify a font that supports the desired Kanjis).

If you want to customize the paper size for the PDF and Word reports you must use the property com.ibm.rdm.fronting.server.publish.PaperSize and specify the paper size name according to https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Main/RRCUsingRRDGReports#Paper_Size_dimensions
