Flexible deployment options

The architecture has changed to a service-based architecture, allowing you to configure a solution that fits your needs. You can configure a solution that works for your teams by choosing a set of applications to share the same Jazz Team Server.

A JTS and applications

With this release the CLM applications can share the same Jazz Team Server. The product functionality is delivered in the form of one or more applications that share the same jazz team server. The Jazz Team Server provides the basic services that enable a group of applications to work together as a single logical server. Each application provides one or more capabilities that can be enabled by licensing. The applications are:

• Change and Configuration Management (CCM) application delivers capabilities for Change Management (work items), Configuration Management (SCM), Planning, and Automation/Build.
• Requirements Management (RM) application delivers capabilities for capturing, managing, and tracing requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
• Quality Management (QM) application delivers capabilities for test management including test planning, creation, and execution.

Product deployment options

With this new architecture, a product deployment involves a Jazz Team Server and one or more applications. The illustration below shows which applications are used by each product.

Solution deployment on one server

The CLM solution can be deployed into a single application server, sharing the same JTS.

Distributed deployment across multiple servers

The CLM solution can be deployed into multiple application servers for increased scalability, all sharing the same JTS.

Shared License server

A JTS can be configured to serve as a shared license server for one or multiple JTS instances. A shared license server enables you to administer all of your organization’s licenses from a single license server.

Consistent platforms and Languages

The CLM solution supports a consistent set of platforms and languages, making it easier to plan your deployment.

Consistent Platform Support

The server operating systems, databases and application server support is consistent across the CLM products (Rational Team Concert, Requirements Manager and Quality Manager.

The client operating systems and browser versions are consistent across the CLM products.

Minor exceptions exist.

Language support

Native language support is consistent across the CLM products.

Updated interactive installation guide

The Interactive installation guide has been updated to let you choose which applications you want to install (Change and Configuration Management, Requirements Management, and Quality Management). The guide also now lets you select whether to see help about installing Rational Reporting for Development Intelligence.

New interactive upgrade guide

The Upgrading and migrating section now includes the Interactive upgrade guide, to help you through the process of upgrading from a previous release. Using the same technology as the Interactive installation guide, the Interactive upgrade guide provides you with an HTML form where you make choices that describe your upgrade scenario. When you click “Get your complete instructions,” the guide returns instructions specific to the choices that you made in the form.

 

Role based licensing and license administration

Access to the Rational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management is granted through the use of a client license. Choose a license according to your role:

• Analyst client license is for team members responsible for defining, analyzing and managing requirements. An Analyst license will support full read/write access to Requirements Definition and Management, Report Customization, and Planning capabilities. Read access to Software Configuration Management, Automation (Build System), and Quality Management capabilities are included, unless otherwise restricted by role-based process permissions by your administrator.
• Developer client license is for team members who develop software and/or conduct builds. A user that has been assigned a Developer license has full read and write access to Change Management, Report Customization, Planning, Software Configuration Management, and Automation (Build System) capabilities. Read access to Requirements Management and Quality Management capabilities is included, unless otherwise restricted by role-based process permissions.
• Developer for Workgroups client license is for team members whodeveloping software and/or conducting builds on a small team The Developer for Workgroups license is similar to the Developer license except that it does not include support for distributed Software Configuration Management and is limited to 50 authorized users per server or server group. It is designed for departmental teams and budgets. Organizations can grow beyond 50 developers by adding Developer or Developer for IBM Enterprise Platform licenses, though the distributed SCM restriction will remain for all licenses on that server or server group.
• Developer for IBM Enterprise Platforms client access license is for team members whodevelop software and/or conduct builds for System z and Power Systems platforms.. In addition to the capabilities provided by the Developer license, this license adds advanced building with dependency management, build impact analysis, promotion support (z/OS), deployment support (z/OS, IBM i, UNIX, and Linux) and advanced context aware search. It is designed for development teams targeting System z and Power Systems platforms. Read access to Requirements Management and Quality Management capabilities is included, unless otherwise restricted by role-based process permissions.
• Quality Professional client license is for team members who plan, construct, or execute tests A user that has been assigned a Quality Professional license has full read and write access to Quality Management, Report Customization and Planning. Read access to Software Configuration Management, Automation (Build System) and Requirements Management capabilities is included, unless otherwise restricted by role-based process permissions.
• Contributor client license is for team members responsible for managing change, planning, or reporting on project status. The Contributor license is designed for professional team members actively participating in the project. A user that has been assigned a Contributor license has full read and write access to Change Management, Report Customization, and Planning. The Contributor license also provides read access to Software Configuration Management, Automation (Build System), Requirements Management, and Test Management capabilities unless otherwise restricted by role-based process permissions.
• Stakeholder client license is for team members who view and comment on work items. (RTC-only) The Stakeholder license is designed to support extended users such as customers, support personnel or extended community members who want to modify work items, and observe project progress. A user that has been assigned a Stakeholder license has read and write access to Change Management, and read access to Reports, and Planning capabilities, unless otherwise restricted by role-based process permissions.

There are multiple license types to choose from. The following is a summary:

• Authorized User Single Install (AUSI) is a license that is associated with a specific user ID on an instance of a Jazz Team Server.
• Floating User Single Install (FUSI) is a license that is dynamically allocated to a user from a pool of licenses administered by a Jazz Team Server that is operating as a floating license server. When a user logs in, the floating license is consumed. When the user logs out, the floating license is returned to the pool.
• Token License is a special form of fixed term, floating license managed by a Jazz Team Server that is operating as a floating (token) server. Tokens can be used with any mix of entitled products. When a user logs in tokens are consumed from the pool. Upon logout, the tokens are returned to the pool for use by others. The number of tokens consumed is determined by the price of the client license.
• Perpetual and Fixed Term options. Authorized and Floating User Single Install licenses can be purchased as perpetual license or for a fixed term of time. (This does not apply to subscription or support.) Both types of licenses can be acquired from the Rational License Key Center
