Setting Team Concert Versioned Content Compression to False

Does anyone know what happens to existing files if the Versioned Content  Compression parameters (delta and gzip) are set to false? Do they stay compressed and only new files stored uncompressed or are then then uncompressed by Team Concert and everything then stored uncompressed?
Are there any consequences of turning compression off besides the obvious disk size/space?

Any reason you want to set it to false? This article suggests against it.
