This guideline describes how to request a new product variant using IBM® Rational® Team Concert.

Steps

1. Log into Rational Team Concert and open your project

a. Create a new Work Item of type Business Need

b. Add information about the business need and the new product

Example:

  • Summary: Create a new variant of the Mobile AMR US product for the UK market
  • Owned by: Pam
  • Filed Against: AMR Product Line
  • Priority: High
  • Planned for: AMR 2013
  • Description: Approval and tracking item for a new Mobile UK product

c. Add a link to the product configuration context

i. Switch to the Links tab of the work item

ii. Add a link to the related product configuration (one from which you want your organization to branch the new variant)

iii. In the configuration picker, search for the product and add a link. Example: Mobile US product may be the base for the new Mobile UK variant

d. [Optional] Add an approval to the business need

i. Switch to the work item’s Approvals tab

ii. Add a new approval

Example of reviewers:

  • Pam (Product Line Manager) - Formally approve business case
  • Pete (Project Manager) - Approve project resource availability
  • Tammy (Test Lead)- Approve Quality Management resources
  • Marco (Development Lead) - Approve platform support and resource availability
  • Andy (System Architect) – Approve solution feasibility

3. Create a child work item to request that a new release plan is created by the Project Manager for the new delivery
