New & Noteworthy for Rational Publishing Engine 6.0.5

Description
Authentication  Generating documents from SSL certificate-enabled environments

You can now generate documents from the Rational Publishing Engine desktop client by using a certificate (.p12) file or a smart card, which are more secure than logging in with a user name and password from SSL certificate-enabled environments. Although a certificate file and a smart card are different, both are certificates that are used for authentication. Certificate authentication is more secure than BASIC and FORM-based authentication. Certificate authentication uses HTTP over SSL and authentication occurs by using a public key certificate that is issued by a trusted organization, which is known as a certificate authority.

Functionality now supported with certificate authentication
Both the Configure Data Source dialog box in RPE Launcher (see images above) and the Add Schema dialog box support certificate and smart card authentication.

Two new data source properties are available:
- SSL Certificate Path: Select path to certificate file.
- Smart Card Certificate: Enter smart card certificate alias name.

Desktop client Designing templates and generating documents from HP ALM as a data source

You can use Rational Publishing Engine to generate documents from HP ALM. RPE can report on this data with the productized REST API that uses a JSON serializer.
You can find the resources supported in the HP ALM documentation (see https://alm-help.saas.hpe.com/en/12.50/api_refs/REST/Resources.htm).

Limitation: Currently, RPE authentication does not work for REST API resources that return data in XML.

Document Builder  Automatically complete tags during advanced search

When you search for a specific asset or connection, an auto-complete feature makes it easy for you to see a list of matching tags while you type. This enhancement helps you to search for assets or connections, without having to remember the exact tag name.

Generate Microsoft Excel documents

In Document Builder, support is now available for Microsoft Excel as an output format. You can now generate and download documents in Microsoft Excel format.

  Movable modal dialog boxes

You can now move and resize the modal dialog boxes. Sometimes it is necessary to see background data when the modal dialog box is open.
Serviceability improvements

When users start document generation by using Document Builder, the progress details are logged in the rpedgaas.log file. Each document generation job can be identified by a unique job ID, and the time it finishes is also logged.

Here is part of a sample log file:

Support for Jazz Team Server server rename with JTS authentication

Now when the Jazz Team Server (JTS) is renamed, it communicates with Rational Publishing Engine Document Builder to update its database with the new JTS URL. The next time you log into Document Builder, you are redirected to a new JTS URL for authentication instead of the invalid old JTS URL.

Launcher  Support for generating Microsoft Excel documents

You can now generate Microsoft Excel documents from the Rational Publishing Engine desktop client. The Rational Publishing Engine template elements that are supported are Paragraph, Container, Text, Hyperlink, Image, Table, Row, and Cell. Most of the basic properties of these elements are also supported.
