Workaround: Third party plug-ins are not working in RTC 3.0.1

Summary

Upon installing a 3rd party plug-ins (Subclipse, etc.), the functionality, menus, views and/or perspectives do not appear.

More Information

Scenario: You have RTC 3.0.1.x Eclipse client installed with Installation Manager and working.

You use Help > Install New Software as normal to install 3rd party plug-ins (Subclipse, etc.). The install goes fine, it asks you to restart then you look at the installed plug-ins in the Eclipse configuration without no errors but the plug-ins do not actually work, the functionality, menus, views and/or perspectives do not appear.

Environment
The operative systems that have shown the problem are:

  • Windows 7
  • Ubuntu 10
Steps that lead to the problem
  1. Install RTC Eclipse Client 3.0.1.x with your administrative Installation Manager, default values where used to install.
  2. Start the product Rational Team Concert – Client for Eclipse IDE (RTC) as a normal user.
  3. Select Help-Install New Software….
  4. Add the source of your third party plug-ins to the list of sources.
  5. Proceed with the install.
  6. Restart RTC when it is required.
  7. Search for the functionality of your plug-ins
  8. If the functionality is not available but Eclipse indicates that your plug-ins are loaded
Workarounds

Choose one of the workaround methods described below to successfully install your third party plugins on top of the RTC 3.0.1.x Eclipse client:

  1. Start RTC Eclipse Client as admin (Run as Administrator in Windows 7 or su in Linux) and then install your plug-ins.
  2. Install RTC Eclipse Client product in a non-virtualized folder, other than C:Program Files (x86) or /opt/IBM.
  3. Use our RTC Eclipse Client Plain Zip. You can get the 3.0.1.2 version here: https://jazz.net/downloads/rational-team-concert/releases/3.0.1.2?p=allDownloads, check the Plain Zips section
  4. Install the RTC Eclipse features and plug-ins using the RTC p2 install repostiory in your existing Eclipse environment and install your plug-ins there too, search for the p2 Install Repository in https://jazz.net/downloads/rational-team-concert/releases/3.0.1.2?p=allDownloads
