Workaround: Local help updater does not start in RTC Eclipse client

Summary

In IBM Rational Team Concert client for Eclipse IDE (the Eclipse client), the default help preferences do not include the local help setting.

More Information

Problem

In the Eclipse client, the help preferences are configured to enable remote help by default. With remote help, the client accesses the help topics from the information center at http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/clmhelp/v4r0/index.jsp. You can also download and install the help locally and then change your help preferences to use local help. In previous releases, the help preference settings included entries for both remote help and local help. In this release, if you want to use local help instead of remote help, you must add the entry for local help.

Prerequisite:

If you want to configure local help, you must first download the help archive file from http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/documentation/updatesites and extract its contents.

Workaround

  1. In the Eclipse, click Window > Preferences. If you are using the Mac client, click Rational Team Concert > Preferences.
  2. Expand Help, select Content, and click New.
  3. Enable local help:
    1. For the name, type Local
    2. For the URL, type http://127.0.0.1:63650/help.
    3. Click OK, and then click Enable.
  4. Disable remote help:
    1. Select the entry for the Rational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management, and then click Disable.
    2. Click Apply, and then click OK.

  5. Close the Eclipse client.
  6. Restart the client. A message is displayed that indicates that the help is initializing.

When the initialization finishes, the following window is displayed.

At this point, the client has started a local help application (help.war), which is configured to access the remote help. To use a help archive file that you have downloaded and extracted locally, click the Local Help Updater button. The Local Help Updater opens in a browser.
  7. In another browser tab or window, go to the Network Connections page (http://127.0.0.1:63650/help/remote/remotehelp.jsp).
  8. Select the entry for the help for the Rational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management, and then click Disable. Click Apply. Close the browser tab.
  9. In the Local Help Updater, remove the installed help. Then install the help that you downloaded and extracted locally.
