Workaround: Rational Team Concert Client for Microsoft Visual Studio IDE does not display any certificates from the smart card

Rational Team Concert Client for Microsoft Visual Studio IDE does not recognize certificates from the smart card if they do not have a friendly name. To check whether your certificate has a friendly name, complete these steps:

  • On Windows 7 systems, click on Start->Run.
  • Type certmgr.msc.
  • In the certmgr window, expand Personal folder and click Certificates.
  • On the right pane, locate your certificate. The value under the Friendly Name column is blank or <NONE>.
  • Optional: Alternatively, use Internet Explorer to check the certificate.
    • In Internet Explorer, click Tools -> Internet Options.
    • Click the Content tab and click Certificates.
    • Under the Personal tab, locate your certificate. The value under the Friendly Name column is blank or <NONE>.

To resolve the issue, provide a value for the friendly name.

  • In the certmgr window, expand Personal folder and click Certificates.
  • On the right pane, right click the certificate and click Open.
  • Click the Details tab. On the Details page, click Edit Properties….
  • In the Certificate Properties window, in the Friendly Name field, type a value and click Apply. Ensure that this value is unique among other certificates listed under Personal -> Certificates.
  • Optional: Alternatively, use Internet Explorer to provide a value for the friendly name.
    • In Internet Explorer, click Tools -> Internet Options.
    • Click the Content tab and click Certificates.
    • Under the Personal tab, select the certificate and click View.
    • Click the Details tab. On the Details page, click Edit Properties….
    • In the Certificate Properties window, in the Friendly Name field, type a value and click Apply. Ensure that this value is unique among other certificates listed in the Certificates window.

Note: For some smart cards, these changes to the friendly name for a certificate may not persist after the smart card is removed from the system.
