Workaround: Restrictions on using ‘decimal’ work item attributes with Eclipse clients prior to Rational Team Concert 4.0.1
Rational Team Concert Planning and Tracking Team
Last Updated: November 8, 2012
Build Basis: Rational Team Concert 4.0.1
In release 4.0.1, you can add attributes of type ‘decimal’ to work items. This document describes the known problems and limitations when using an Eclipse client prior to 4.0.1 on work item attributes of type ‘decimal’. Our recommendation is to not configure the new decimal attributes in an environment with pre-4.0.1 Eclipse clients. If you use an Eclipse client prior to 4.0.1 on a work item type that contains decimal attributes, the following restrictions apply:
- You cannot create work items containing decimal attributes
- You cannot view and modify the decimal attribute in the work item editor
- You cannot import work items containing decimal attributes
- Do not configure plans with decimal attributes
Workaround Summary
With pre-4.0.1 Eclipse clients, you cannot create work items containing decimal attributes.
Problem
You cannot use a pre-4.0.1 Eclipse client to create a work item that contains a decimal attribute. The following error will display:
Workaround
Use a web client or 4.0.1 or later Eclipse client on projects that use work item types with ‘decimal’ attribute.

Workaround Summary
With pre-4.0.1 Eclipse clients, you cannot view and modify the decimal attribute in the work item editor.
Problem
When you open an existing work item that has a decimal attribute, pre-4.0.1 Eclipse clients do not display the attribute. However, you can make changes to other attributes.
Workaround
To modify or visualize a decimal attribute in a pre-4.0.1 Eclipse client, use a web client or a 4.0.1 or later Eclipse client on projects that use work item types with ‘decimal’ attribute.
Workaround Summary
With pre-4.0.1 Eclipse clients, you cannot import work items containing decimal attributes.
Problem
CSV Importer in pre-4.0.1 Eclipse clients does not support decimal types. To prevent data corruption, Rational Team Concert does not permit importing work items that contain one or more decimal attributes with these clients. The following error displays:
Workaround
Use a 4.0.1 or later Eclipse client on projects that use work item types with ‘decimal’ attribute.
Related Information
For more information, see: Defect 229554
Workaround Summary
With pre-4.0.1 Eclipse clients, do not configure plans with decimal attributes.
Problem
The process specification editor in Eclipse clients older than 4.0.1 display decimal attributes as ‘enumeration’ attribute types. In the editor, you can configure plans that use these attributes in places where only enumeration attributes are permitted. However, if you configure these attributes, the plan views displays errors. The following error is displayed with an invalid plan configuration:
Workaround
Use a 4.0.1 or later Eclipse client when configuring a process specification.
