Upgrading the Jazz Team Server and other CLM components to version 3.0.1 on z/OS

The purpose of this article is to provide detailed steps for upgrading the server and other Rational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) components to version 3.0.1 on z/OS. This article provides the special requirements for upgrades on z/OS and supplements the basic upgrading information in the CLM information center. The article also includes considerations and instructions for upgrading the Build System Toolkit on z/OS.

Introduction

Previous versions of Rational Team Concert only supported installing the Jazz Team Server or the Change and Configuration Management (CCM) application on z/OS; therefore, the upgrade process is a combination of upgrading installed applications, migrating data, and installing new optional applications, like CCM (if it was not installed previously), Quality Management (QM), and Requirements Management (RM).

Upgrades for z/OS have several significant differences from upgrades for other systems:

  • IBM Installation Manager is not compatible with installations or upgrades on z/OS
  • Installations on z/OS are handled by SMP/E (System Modification Program/Extended)
  • The Jazz Team Server and other CLM applications on z/OS use configuration and working directories that are separate from installation directories

There are two upgrade scenarios for upgrading the Jazz Team Server and CLM applications on z/OS:

  1. Upgrading manually from version 3 to version 3.0.1: This scenario involves upgrading the Jazz Team Server and the CCM application if you have it installed. After the upgrades, you have the option of installing QM and RM.
  2. Upgrading manually from version 2 to version 3.0.1: This scenario involves upgrading from version 2 of Rational Team Concert for System z to version 3.0.1 of the Jazz Team Server and the CCM application. After the upgrade, you have the option of installing QM and RM.
