Viewing work item history
Engineering Workflow Management tracks the work items that you work on and the queries that you run, and provides several ways to conveniently access that history.
About this task
You can see the history of changes that were made to a work item, access the results of queries that you previously ran, and see a daily history of work items that you opened in the work item editor.
- To see the history of changes that were made to a work
item, open the work item in the work item editor and click the History tab.
This tab shows a complete history of changes that goes back to the
work item creation. The history is further sorted by the person who
made the change. Note: Changing the filed against value when a work item is moved to another team area is logged as a change to the filed against value, not as a change to the team area.A Include Link History check box is displayed in the upper-right corner of the page. Select this check box to display a history of links that were added to the work item. Link history is included for both Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) and non-OSLC links. If your administrator enabled automatic archiving of auditable links in the Change and Configuration Management administrative UI, a history of links that were removed from the work item is also displayed. A warning icon displays next to the Include Link History check box if automatic archiving of auditable links is disabled.Note: The time that it takes to display the link history depends on the size of the history.
Like the other entries on the History tab, the link history is read-only. Any modifications to the linked item, for example, changing the Summary field of a linked work item, are not reflected in the link history.
When you select the Include Link History check box, this setting is transient. The setting is maintained while you have the work item open in the work item editor or until you refresh the work item.
By default, the Include Link History check box is cleared, meaning that the link history is not displayed.
A calendar bar at the top of the History tab is segmented into weekly sections. Weeks in which work item changes were made are highlighted in blue. Click a week to see a summary of the changes that were made during that week. Use the Zoom In and Zoom Out icons to adjust the calendar focus to days, weeks, or months. Use the arrows at either end of the calendar bar to scroll forward or backward in time.
- To access results of queries you previously ran, in the Work Items view, click the Show Previous Query Results toolbar icon. The Query History window displays the names of the queries you ran in order with the most recently run query at the top of the list. Next to each name is the number of items the query returned. Double-click an entry to see the results in the results grid.
- To see a history of the work items that you opened in the work item editor, in the Team Artifacts view, expand the Work Item History folder. The folder lists the work items that you opened today. Beneath those items are folders for items that you opened on previous days. The folders have names such as 2 days ago, 3 days ago, 5 days ago. Double-click a work item to open it in the work item editor. You can also use the Recent Work section in the Team Dashboard view to see work items that you worked on recently. From the View Menu icon on the Team Dashboard, select to display the section.
- To search the history of work items or queries that were created by or modified by you and other members of your team, click . In the search window that opens, enter a term to search for. Work items and queries are displayed that contain the term you entered. The artifact type is displayed in the left column and the artifact number and summary are displayed in the right column.
